for each person who joins, it counts as one upvote, which will bring you closer to the frontpage of the /r/CircleOfTrust subreddit. Some do it for the glory, while others do it to join as many as they can, since you also have a little tag beside your name that shows how many are in your circle, and how many circles you've joined that were betrayed. Also the tag gets set red if you're the betrayer

basically, you create a circle, then if people want to join your circle, you have to give them a password. However if they have a password, they themselves can also either spread the password around, or betray the circle, and shut it down.
